iPhone 14 battery capabilities confirmed by Apple itself

In characteristic style, Apple has unveiled the iPhone 14 series without sharing key details from the specs list, the company usually omitting those aspects that can’t be superbly presented, or don’t do much to fuel excitement among fans. Thus, the only statement received was “the best battery life ever seen in an iPhone”.

Already, anyone who watched Apple’s launch event knows that the iPhone 14 series is just a cosmeticized and slightly improved version of the iPhone 13 predecessor. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Apple stuck to more “on paper” increases in installed battery capacities, either, and it remains to be seen whether more efficient hardware or perhaps software optimizations will manage to squeeze out a noticeable increase in actual battery life.

A week late, Apple has released official details on battery capacities for each iPhone 14 model.

As expected, the iPhone 14 Plus is the best positioned in this regard, with the 4325 mAh battery coupled with a not-so-fancy but more power-efficient hardware configuration. In contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with the 4323 mAh battery, but the more power-hungry chipset, display and cameras, lowering expectations on the battery life side. In fact, the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s battery is a bit smaller, with Apple betting other optimizations on similar battery life.

There are (some) increases for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro as well, but not enough to be noticeable outside of synthetic testing:

• iPhone 14 : 3279 mAh
• iPhone 14 Plus : 4325 mAh
• iPhone 14 Pro : 3200 mAh
• iPhone 14 Pro Max : 4323 mAh
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4352 mAh

Without much hope from the spec list, it remains to see the battery life tests published from sources independent of Apple to form a full picture of the iPhone 14’s battery life.
