Prince Andrew and ex-partner to keep Elizabeth II’s corgi dogs

The Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will take charge of Queen Elizabeth II’s two corgi dogs, a spokesman for Andrew has confirmed as quoted by the British press. These dogs became, along with her hats and bowler hats, one of the most recognizable hallmarks of the late queen.

Andrew, the third of Elizabeth II’s four children, and Sarah Ferguson will thus assume the care of Muick and Sandy. The former was given to his mother by Andrew himself in early 2021 during the Queen’s confinement at Windsor Castle and Sandy was the 95th birthday present from Andrew and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

Elizabeth II had throughout her reign more than 30 Welsh corgi-type dogs, a breed to which the monarch was particularly devoted and during the coronavirus confinement they kept her company, her dresser, Angela Kelly, has revealed.

Most of the queen’s corgis were descendants of Susan, her first corgi, which she received as a gift for her 18th birthday in 1944. During the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee she gathered 70 corgis at Balmonar who participated in a race.
