Taiwan receives another U.S. delegation in the midst of escalating tensions with China

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing Wen received on Monday a new U.S. delegation, this time led by the Republican governor of the state of Indina, Eric Holcomb, in the midst of escalating tensions with China.

Holcomb was received Monday by Taiwan’s president a day after his arrival on the island for a four-day visit. His is a new show of support from Washington following the passage of Senator Ed Markey and especially U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi’s visit prompted criticism from China, which in response carried out a series of military exercises, which for Taiwan are nothing more than “threats” for which it has asked its “democratic allies” to remain “united” to “boost” cooperation “in all areas”.

Holcomb has promised that the state of Indiana will continue to seek how to continue to collaborate with Taiwan for years to come and a sign of this has embodied his signature on a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the island to facilitate business, trade and scientific cooperation.

During his stay, Governor Holcomb plans to meet with other senior government officials, as well as other business and civil society representatives, according to Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry.
