Japan’s prime minister cancels trip to Tunisia after testing positive for COVID-19

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has cancelled his attendance at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), which takes place on August 27-28 in Tunisia, after testing positive for COVID-19.

Kishida, who is currently recovering at his official residence, underwent a PCR test on Sunday and tested positive after presenting symptoms on Saturday night, including mild fever and moderate cough, NHK news portal reported.

The 65-year-old Japanese leader was scheduled to resume his duties from Monday after a summer vacation of about a week with his family, although his office has already specified that he will work telematically.
