At least three people have been killed and more than twenty injured in an explosion at a mosque in Kabul on Wednesday, according to a provisional casualty toll released by an NGO.
A spokesman for the Kabul Police, Khalid Zadran, has explained to the DPA agency that the incident, which occurred in the Kotal-e-Khairkhana area, coincided with the evening prayer, so local media anticipate that there may be a large number of victims.
The NGO Emergency reported in a statement that 27 people, five of them children, have been brought to its hospital. Two of these victims arrived already dead at the medical center, while a third one died later due to the injuries suffered.
The Taliban regime has condemned through one of its spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, this event and has vowed to pursue those responsible. Afghanistan continues to suffer attacks on a regular basis, mostly claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group’s affiliate in the country. Last week, a prominent pro-Taliban cleric was killed in a suicide attack.
Just this Monday, August 15, marked the first anniversary since the Taliban regained power, two decades after the overthrow of their first regime.
