The December 1 launch for the Xiaomi 13 series was postponed at the last minute, but now we have a new date when the Chinese manufacturer plans to unveil its new flagships. Unfortunately, the surprises the company was preparing have already been revealed online by listings on online stores, with official photos of the devices now available in high resolution.
Xiaomi 13 debuts in China
Xiaomi has announced that it has rescheduled the launch event of the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro phones for December 11. Curiously, the date chosen by the company falls on a Sunday. Presumably the launch schedule over the next few weeks is so busy in China that Xiaomi wants to avoid overlapping with other announcements from other companies. The event will take place from 7pm China time.
At the event, Xiaomi will unveil the flagship Xiaomi 13, a “compact” flagship with a design inspired by iPhones of recent years, with straight edges and flat glass panels. The back is only slightly curved, and one of the variants will come with a vegan leather cover. The camera module is squarer than in the past, but it’s still equipped with three cameras, which benefit from Leica optimizations.
In the case of the Xiaomi 13 Pro, we’re dealing with a more rounded design, especially for the back cover, and a much larger camera module with a 50-megapixel camera and 1″ Wide lens sensor. Both models will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Along with the two phones, Xiaomi will also officially unveil the new MIUI 14, based on Android 13, reportedly integrating new security features, improvements to notifications, and a feature that several companies have already integrated over the past few years: the ability to select text directly from photos in the Gallery app. Meanwhile, however, other companies, such as Apple, have gone a step further and now allow selecting text directly from videos.
