Vivo X90 Pro+, officially announced. Includes 1″ sensor camera, ZEISS optics and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Vivo has officially announced its new flagship for next year: the Vivo X90 Pro+. This is the first officially announced smartphone to use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and also the first model from Vivo equipped with a 1″ sensor camera. Unlike other models that use such a sensor however, the Vivo also boasts a proprietary image processor and ZEISS optics.

At first glance, we’re dealing with a “regular” flagship smartphone. We’re talking about a device with a 6.78″ QHD+ (3,200 x 1,440 pixels) display with LTPO 4 AMOLED panel at 120 Hz, 10-bit color and 1,800 nits brightness. This could be the most advanced display on a smartphone to date, even offering 1,440 brightness steps and factory color calibration. It’s also compatible with the Dolby Vision HDR standard.

The configuration uses the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 along with 12 GB RAM and 256 or 512 GB internal storage on UFS 4.0 format. The chipset is cooled by a very large 8,900 mm2 vapour chamber, which should keep performance stable over long use. vivo V2 is the company’s new image processor for the computations needed in shooting and processing. It offers both standard and AI-enabled photo processing for applying effects such as noise reduction or real-time HDR shooting and filming, and comes equipped with 45MB of SRAM memory. It’s all powered by a 4,700 mAh battery with fast charging at 80W wired and 50W wireless.

Of course, cameras are important for this model, and vivo has configured this phone primarily with a 1″ SONY IMX989 sensor for the wide camera. It comes with a ZEISS T* f/1.75 lens with limited light reflections and low ghosting, and the sensor is 77% larger than the one on the vivo X80 Pro. We also have two other zoom cameras, a 64-megapixel 3.5x optical zoom with periscopic lens, along with a 50mm (2x zoom) portrait camera with a 50-megapixel sensor. These three cameras also have optical stabilisation, but the 48 megapixel ultra-wide camera is not stabilised. There’s even a 3D TOF sensor to help with focusing and portrait mode. The front camera has 32 megapixels and f/2.45 aperture.

On the photography side, pixel binning technology is used for brighter and more detailed photos, thanks to 3.2 nm pixels. Stills and movies can be shot in 14-bit RAW, with Zeiss Natural Color 2.0 colour options. Dolby Vision and LOG shooting are also available.

The phone debuts on the Chinese market on December 6, at a starting price of 6,499 yuan, equivalent to 887 euros. The 512 GB model will cost 6,999 yuan, or 955 euros. Presumably, when it arrives in Europe, the price will rise to somewhere around €1,300.
