VIDEO Copenhagen Cowboy, a new series from Drive director: what we know so far about the production

Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming series Copenhagen Cowboy from Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn.

The story of Copenhagen Cowboy revolves around a mysterious young heroine named Miu, played by Danish actress Angela Bundalovic, who, after a life of servitude, tries to start over as she ventures into the dangerous landscape of Copenhagen’s underworld.

Interestingly, the cast also includes Refn’s daughters Lola and Lizzielou Corfixen, along with Zlatko Buric, Andreas Lykke Jørgensen, Jason Hendil-Forssell, Li Ii Zhang, Dragana Milutinovic, Mikael Bertelsen and Mads Brügger.

The Copenhagen Cowboy trailer doesn’t tell much about the story, but it offers a visual spectacle of its own

Netflix has released the official trailer for Refn’s Copenhagen Cowboy TV series, putting the director’s signature visual style front and center. Backed by a suitably electronic backdrop, the trailer reveals quite a few plot details. It does, however, offer a series of hypnotic, blood-soaked images for which the director is already known, this kind of ‘mise-en-scène’ being part of his signature.

After directing well-received Hollywood films like 2011’s Drive and 2016’s The Neon Demon, Refn’s attention has shifted exclusively to television projects in recent years.

The Danish director returns to his homeland for the first time since 2009’s Valhalla Rising, starring Mads Mikkelson, and marks his first project since 2019’s Amazon series Too Old to Die Young, starring Miles Teller.

Nonetheless, expectations for Copenhagen Cowboy are extremely high among the director’s loyal fans, and the trailer below, which showcases some of his trademarks, will no doubt feed their appetites.

Copenhagen Cowboy is set to have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 9, but it’s unclear exactly when it will hit Netflix.
