Valve has revealed the regional allocation of invitations to the StarLadder Budapest Major.the second Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Major of 2025. According to Valve’s latest supplementary regulations, Europe has allocated five slots for each of Phase 3 and Phase 2. In addition, the Americas will receive two slots for both phases, while Asia has received one invitation for both Phase 3 and Phase 2.
These changes have been made as a result of the results of the BLAST.tv Austin Major. The 16 direct invitations to Phase 1 are marked as “to be determined,” meaning that it has not yet been confirmed how this allocation will be distributed.
According to the results of the BLAST.tv Austin Major, Europe has lost one spot for Phase 3, while the Americas region has gained one. This is probably due to the results of the Brazilian teams at the event, including FURIA and PaiN Gaming, which finished in the top eight in Texas.
However, for Phase 2, Europe and Asia have gained one spot, while the Americas have lost two. In the previous distribution, Europe had six spots for phase 3, America one and Asia one. For phase 2, Europe had four and America the rest. It should be noted that Asia had no invitations for phase 2.
Other important changes in the regulations
In addition to the updated invitation allocation for the Budapest Major, Valve has also revealed that invited teams cannot change their squads once invitations have been distributed.
The five players listed under the organization’s name at the time of invitation distribution are classified as the core of the team. Teams may register one additional alternate if the player does not change the squad region. Prior to revealing the regional invitation allocation, Valve recently introduced a new sub-region for the European VRS.
The registered template must match the invited template. The registered squad may optionally include a substitute player who, if replacing any starting player, would not alter the regional allocation of the starting lineup.
