The esports club GIANTX is getting ready to face the great challenge of the year, to qualify for the League of Legends World Championship. If so, it would be the organization’s greatest achievement in its history, not only since the merger, but also for Giants and EXCEL prior to the merger.
The Worlds are the most impactful event in international e-sports, the event that every LoL professional dreams of. GIANTX is two victories away from certifying the ticket that will ensure its presence at the 2024 World Championships to be held in several cities of the world. Europe and whose final will take place in London.
We are at our best moment of the year. It has been the split in which we have had better sensations and better results in the playoffs. Our players have been in better shape. For example, Jackies has improved a lot during the year. And Juhan and Th3Antonio have fit in very well with the team.
David Alonso ‘Lozark’, sports director of GIANTX
After making playoffs in the winter and spring but falling in the first round, GIANTX put on a remarkable face in the summer playoffs, with performances that bordered on victory against Fnatic and Team BDStop-tier teams, and ultimately World Cup participants in 2023. By points, the giants consolidated their place among the six best-performing teams of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC)the continental competition that is also the launching pad for the Worlds. These six teams will meet at the ‘Season Finals‘, the event that awards two places for the World Cup. The third is already G2, winner of the LEC summer.
What do you have to do to go to Worlds?
You have to play the ‘Season Finals’ to go to the League of Legends Worlds. If one of those finalists is G2, one of those places will go to the next ‘top 3’ qualifier. This means that it will probably be enough with win two five-map matchesThe summer winner will be one of the finalists, a more than plausible option. G2, the organization with the best track record in the competition, has five LEC titles in a row, including one Season Finals title.
The sensations are very good. Even in the games we lost against Fnatic and BDS we were ahead, also in gold, and we lost maps that could have ended in our favor. We will probably play again against BDS or Fnatic, and we have many options as we already had in ‘playoffs’. We are improving. And we have an advantage: they will play a week before and we will be able to see how they draft, how they play, while they will have no information about what we will do.
David Alonso
He refers to the fact that the ‘Season Finals’ calendar starts with Fnatic-BDS and G2-MAD Lions KOI. These two matches will be played on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11, respectively. Waiting for the losers are GIANTX and SK Gaming. These matches will be played a week later. GIANTX, having finished sixth, will play its continuity against the loser of the two mentioned series that had a better performance in the summer LEC. In order, they would be: G2, Fnatic, BDS and MAD Lions KOI.
Lozark stated that the winner of their series is very likely to be the team that qualifies for Worlds, in light of the dream facing the quintet Th3Antonio, Juhan, Jackies, Patrik and Ignardirected by Kaas and Nico. Berlin will once again pass judgment.
