The latest developer diary from The Guild – Europe 1410 gives a clear look at how you as a player build a medieval existence. THQ Nordic and Ashborne Games show how professions work, what they mean for your dynasty and how you grow from a simple craftsman to someone with real influence. At the same time, it has been confirmed that the game’s first closed gameplay test goes into effect, allowing players to participate early in development.
Everything starts with choosing a profession because, according to the creators, every dynasty is “forged by humble hands.” For example, you can carve stones, make clothes, brew fragrances or run a busy inn. Each trade gives you its own advantages that determine your strategy in the early hours and later open doors to trade, power and perhaps even politics. The dev diary already explains some of the professions: the Stone Mason who makes tools and maintains roads, the Joiner who produces wooden goods, the Tailor who gathers additional information through gossip, the Perfumer who lures customers with scents, the Alchemist who cleans buildings and brews potions, the Preacher who saves souls and pergament, and the Innkeeper who serves meals and catches a steady stream of tavern gossip.
After that, it’s all about growing your business. You hire staff, improve your workshop and send carts to market, but over-investing can just as easily send you straight into debt prison. Those with more ambition than just making money can even enter politics. Earning citizenship, winning seats, winning votes, cleverly fending off opponents or claiming influence in more creative ways are all among the possibilities.
According to the studio, more dev diaries will follow soon, with the next topic being crime, punishment and the peculiar logic of medieval justice.
