Snake hunting doesn’t sound like a profession most sensible people would pursue, but in Florida everything is fair game.
It has been 10 years since Florida launched its first public contest to kill Burmese pythons, and since then thousands of hunters from around the world have hoped to be the winner of the $30,000 grand prize.
Some of the winners include a deaf science teacher who fought a 16-foot python with his bare hands and a 19-year-old who said he would use his $10,000 prize to buy better snake spotting lights for his truck.
While this may sound like a conservationist’s nightmare, it is apparently necessary to restore the balance of Florida’s Everglades. Burmese pythons are not a native species to that area and pose a huge threat to that area.
Would you feel like hunting snakes?
