Riot Games offers tier 2 update for League of Legends Americas League

Riot Gamesthe video game developer, has unveiled major updates to its League of Legends (LoL) tier 2 structure for its new Americas League. The changes include the restructuring of the Latin American leagues, as well as details on the one-year guest spot in the Americas League tier 1.

In June, the League of Legends developer announced its intentions to. merge the top-tier American leagues LCS, CBLOL and LLA. to establish a Pan-American circuit by 2025, which would operate under a two-conference model. The latest LCS division concluded this month with a promising audience.

Similarly, the new tier 2 system will feature two conferences and two leagues each. North America and Brazil will continue with their current NACL and CBLOL Academy competitions, respectively.

However, the existing qualifiers in Latin America will be transformed into full-fledged tier 2 leagues, called LRN (Liga Regional Norte) and LRS (Liga Regional Sur). The two conferences will be called North (NACL and LRN) and South (CBLOL Academy and LRS).

The four leagues will use a two-split format, which will run parallel to the tier 1, 2 and 3 splits. The leagues will also feature specific playoffs to ensure an open ecosystem. In addition, each first tier 2 split of the Americas will feature the Full Fearless format, which prohibits teams from picking the same champions as in their previous match in a series.

The competitive season will culminate with a Tier 1 Ascension Tournament, in which the top two Tier 2 teams from each regional league will face the guest team from each Tier 1 conference. The winners will be rewarded with a berth in the Tier 1 Americas league and the opportunity to qualify for international events, such as the World Championship. In addition, the promoted teams will adopt a business model comparable to that of the associate teams.

The full schedule for the 2025 tier 2 season will be released at a later date. Going forward, Riot plans to work to integrate additional elements into the tier 2 ecosystem, such as tier 1 Sister Teams and Collegiate Teams, as well as the Americas Challengers Tournament. In this first Pan-American league, six tier two teams will compete for a prize pool of $75,000.
