Motorsport UK y Simracing.GP have launched a new e-sports series, the British GT Esports Cup 2024which matches the excitement of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship. The first series of its kind encourages drivers from the community to participate, rather than just ‘Pro’ simulation racers, enabling even new drivers to have the opportunity to compete in a competitive championship closely aligned to their version of the real thing on the track.
Simracing.GP (SGP) will host the official series, which begins in February.
The Motorsport UK Esports series will take place on British tracks in Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC), with a brief trip to Spa in Belgium to mirror the real-world 2024 British GT calendar. The championship races will adopt a combination of formats to replicate the challenges of the GT series, from a sprint-style event at Oulton Park with two 60-minute races, to the longer challenge of a three-hour battle at Silverstone. And it wouldn’t be a British series without the threat of weather affecting the races.
Forty places will be available for two-driver teams consisting of one ‘Pro’ and one ‘Am’ level driver. These levels will be decided using the Simracing.GP’s proprietary ranking system. and each driver must have completed five races in ACC with SGP to ensure an accurate ranking.
In addition to the exciting prizes availableNext Level Racing has provided an HF8 haptic pad that will be awarded to a driver randomly selected from drivers who have competed in all six rounds of the Championship.
It’s exciting to be able to offer the first Motorsport UK race at ACC, and what better way to do so than to partner with the iconic British GT series. It is always important to SGP to continue to provide opportunities for drivers of all levels, which is why the Pro-Am format is so exciting.
Adam Eley, SGP Sales and Marketing Director
It feels great to finally announce our first championship on the ACC platform. The fact that this is in partnership with such a prestigious championship as British GT makes it well worth the wait. This championship is an excellent addition to our Motorsport UK Esports membership, which allows all members to compete in the championship at no extra cost.
Paul Crawford, Motorsport UK Esports Director.
In 2015, British GT became the first SRO series to run an officially sanctioned eSports championship. Now, after a two-year hiatus, I’m delighted to see it return with a new format and under new management on the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform.
Motorsport UK already runs several national simulation series, while the SimRacing.GP team is one of the best in the industry. The new format will also allow players of all levels to compete, a significant change from the last British GT eSports championship in 2021 and the current wider SRO Esports environment.
