New Pokemon TCG expansion Scarlet and Violet announced – That’s Gaming

The Pokémon Company International today announced the next expansion to the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG): Scarlet & Violet-Obsidian Flames. This expansion will launch from August 11, 2023 at participating stores worldwide.

The upcoming expansion Scarlet & Violet-Obsidian Flames Introduces Tera Pokémon ex with a changed type in the Pokémon TCG. In this, certain Tera Pokémon ex cards have a different energy type. For example, Trainers face Charizard ex of Darkness type instead of its usual Fire type and Tyranitar ex of Lightning type instead of its usual Fighting or Darkness type. During attacks, Tera Pokémon ex with a changed type use the same energy as their usual type. However, they have a different weakness corresponding to their changed type. The same rules apply to these cards as normal Pokémon ex. This means that elimination will cost a Tera Pokémon ex two Prize cards instead of one.

Included in the expansion are the following notable cards:

• 15 Pokémon ex and 6 Tera Pokémon ex
• 12 Illustration Rare Pokémon
• 6 Special Illustration Rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
• 12 etched full-art Ultra Rare Pokémon ex and Supporter cards
• 3 etched Hyper Rare Gold cards

Scarlet & Violet-Obsidian Flames will be available at participating stores worldwide in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and special collections.

In addition, prior to the release of the traditional version, Trainers can digitally Scarlet & Violet-Obsidian Flames play on Aug. 10, 2023 via the Pokémon TCG Live app for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows devices. By logging in, players will receive battle passes from Scarlet & Violet-Obsidian Flames as a reward a new deck with Charizard ex of Darkness type. Players can also unlock an additional premium deck with Toedscruel ex by redeeming crystals earned from completing daily missions.
