The market research and data company Nielsen has promoted Timo Krueger to Global Director of Esports. He will seek to assist and support the various stakeholders in the industry, by providing comprehensive data to evaluate sponsorships and support company strategies.
Krueger has more than seven years of experience with the company, having served as International Commercial Director for the company’s esports and video games division for the past three years. Although not officially announced until this month, the promotion came earlier this year.
Nielsen is a reputable market research firm that provides extensive data on all industries, including traditional sports and e-sports. Last year, the company collaborated with esports holding company ex corp. in a report on the global competitive video game market. The report detailed the growth of the global video gaming and e-sports industries worldwide by 2022.
Despite the industry’s growth in recent years, companies have struggled to achieve profitability, and general economic conditions have further amplified those challenges. Stakeholders have debated much about the so-called “esports winter” as some companies continue to downsize and explore new revenue streams.
I’m grateful for the opportunity Nielsen has given me. We are seeing the industry developing and going through some ups and downs, but the need for data is even more important in uncertain times and, to that end, we want to create new solutions.
