Now that summer is over and we are truly into fall, many of you are no doubt looking for something interesting to fill your evenings as the nights draw closer. Netflix, as usual, has plenty of exciting additions planned for the month of October, and we’ve picked the best of the bunch worth keeping an eye on. It should be noted, however, that we based our choices on the Netflix UK additions, so be sure to check locally for accurate information.
Chef’s Table: noodles – Oct. 2
The artful documentary series about food returns with a new season devoted to noodles in particular. That may sound a bit niche, but expect a season that delves into Asian cuisine and pasta masters from Italy.
Heartstopper: Season 3 – Oct. 3
Few shows have as many followers of the Netflix audience as Heartstopper. This season, returning this month, will see Charlie and Nick’s relationship deepen and face the most demanding emotional challenge yet.
It’s what’s in it – Oct. 4
A freaky movie for the spooky season. It’s What’s Inside is a comic thriller that plays with horror tropes and sees a young and objectively attractive cast undergo psychological horrors when confronted with an unusual and mysterious case.
Start 5 – October 9
While you could argue that Netflix has gone a bit overboard with its sports documentary efforts lately, that doesn’t stop the streamer from releasing a new series focusing on five of the biggest names in the NBA as they try to become champions in one season.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft – Oct. 10
Netflix continues its efforts this month to adapt several prominent video game series to anime and animated work, all by partnering with Crystal Dynamics to produce a series based on the Tomb Raider herself, Lara Croft. This show is set after the events of the recent action-adventure trilogy and features Hayley Atwell as the voice of the titular gaming icon.
Outer Banks: Season 4 Part 1 – Oct. 10
Another returning series this month. In the fourth season of Outer Banks, the young cast will explore their lives a few years after the former storyline after their famous quest for gold came to an end. However, this will only be the first half of the season, as the second will arrive in November.
Lonely Planet – Oct. 11
Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth starring in a Netflix romantic drama. Need we say more? Lonely Planet sees Dern’s novelist on her way to a writers’ retreat in Morocco, where she meets and falls head over heels for a solid young man, played by Hemsworth.
Uprising – Oct. 11
Occasionally, Netflix produces a locally-tuned show that captures the attention of viewers outside its native region. For October, this appears to be Uprising, a South Korean action film that follows two childhood friends who face each other as enemies after a war, leading to emotionally challenging conflicts.
The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 3 – Oct. 17
The Lincoln Lawyer also returns this month. After a long wait following the events of season 2, Mickey Haller’s legal practice opens its doors once again, but not everything is hunky-dory as life’s challenges and stresses steadily catch up with the titular protagonist.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance – Oct. 17
An animated action series that seeks to document the battle between the factions Principality of Zero and the Earth Federation, a war involving devastating mechs vying against each other for dominance. In terms of a very basic and broad plot premise, there’s not much that doesn’t get us excited for the latest animated Gundam project.
Woman of the Hour – Oct. 18
Anna Kendrick will present her directorial debut this month when Woman of the Hour arrives. This suspenseful film follows a young woman in her 70s who, after winning a spot on a TV dating show, discovers she has been linked to a serial killer deep in a years-long string of murders.
Time frame – Oct. 30
Another horror project released just before the spookiest day of the year. Time Cut follows a teenage girl as she goes back in time to the early 2000s to prevent a savage killer from brutally murdering her sister. But as we all know, interfering with time opens up a whole other can of worms, something she will soon discover for herself….
The Diplomat: Season 2 – Oct. 31
To round out the month, we have one last returning series. Keri Russell is back in the lead role of this political thriller, where after the events of the stunning first season, she will be tasked with putting together damaged relationships while navigating new global threats.
