This Thursday, Marieke Flamentthe figurehead of the blockchain project Near Protocolhas announced that he is stepping down as CEO at the Near Foundation.

All good things must come to an end – and after two crazy (very crazy!) years as CEO of the Near Foundation, I’ve decided to step down and make room for the next evolution of the Near Foundation, which will be led by Chris Donovan,” she wrote in a blog post.

From the announcement, Marieke Flament will remain a “mactive and committed” member of the Near Foundation Board. Her successor Chris Donovan has been working for the foundation since joining Outlier Ventures.

Launched in 2020, Near is an L1 blockchain network offering an Ethereum-style ecosystem of DApps. Its native token, NEARhas a market cap of just over $1 billion, according to CMC data.

Last year, the project closed a $350 million financing round led by US venture capital firm Tiger Global.
