More info on sequel Okami – That’s Gaming

The award-winning Ōkami captured the hearts of players around the world in 2006. Today at the Game Awards, and to the surprise and excitement of viewers from around the world, Capcom announced that work is underway on a brand new title in this Action Adventure series.

Hideki Kamiya, director of the beloved original Ōkami, returns as director of this new Ōkami project. The game is being developed by multiple studios that include several developers from the original Ōkami including M-TWO Inc., Machine Head Works Inc., and CLOVERS Inc. of which Hideki Kamiya is a member.

Amaterasu and his friends return for a heartwarming story with exciting adventures in a uniquely Japanese setting. What will their next adventure look like? It will be some time before we can share more information, but the entire development team hopes fans and newcomers alike are looking forward to this project.

Originally released in 2006, this beloved Action-Adventure game is set in a beautiful Japanese-style world. Take on the role of Amaterasu and embark on an adventure to bring life back to the land. Experience colorful action and meet a cast full of quirky characters while overcoming enemies with the unique game system, the Celestial Brush. Okami features a unique world, a heartwarming story and breathtaking visuals in Sumi-e ink style. Nearly 20 years after its original release, Okami is still loved by fans around the world.

Signed in 1970 in Matsumoto (Nagano prefecture), Japan. Director of Resident Evil 2 (1998), Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami, Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101.

As executive director, he was responsible for elements such as oversight of, initial planning for, and narration of Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon and Sol Cresta.

After working at Capcom, Clover Studios and PlatinumGames, he joined CLOVERS Inc. in October 2024 as studio head and chief game designer. He is currently working as director of the Ōkami-sequel.

“Until next time…”

How long has it been since the story ended with this? I never thought the day would really come, when I could return to Ōkami and continue story with my own hands. Even at this moment, my body is filled with both a tentative surprise that this is not a dream, and a joy that cannot be described in words.

Everyone who worked so hard to make this project a reality, the friends who believed in me and rallied at CLOVERS Inc. and, most importantly, the voices of so many of you who supported Ōkami after such a long time: all of this came together to make this miracle, for which I am very grateful.

Like a strong rising sun, this project has finally been set in motion. But, it is still blooming. We are ready to fill this new Ōkami with many colorful flowers and do our best then to fulfill the promise for “next time” in the best possible way.
