Miyamoto on next Mario Game – “Stay Tuned for Future Nintendo Directs” – That’s Gaming

This October marks six years since the launch of the last new main 3D Mario title, Super Mario Odyssey, and although we did see the launch of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury in 2021, fans of the franchise are beginning to wonder how long it will be before the next full-fledged installment arrives, especially now that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is out and the excitement surrounding the franchise is picking up.

While the wait for an answer to that question continues, Nintendo mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto has dropped something of a hint for when the next Mario game might be announced. When asked about the next installment of the franchise in a recent interview with Variety, he said, though reluctant to give a concrete answer, “Well, all I can say is to stay tuned for future Nintendo Directs,” accompanied by a big smile.

That in no way limits the time period in which the next Mario game might be announced, but at least we know it’s now on Nintendo’s mind. It is rumored that the successor to the Switch is in development at Nintendo, which analysts expect to launch in 2024, so the company could be withholding the next Mario title to tie this launch to its next console.

In November 2021 when talking about the next Mario game, Miyamoto said Nintendo will again try to expand the franchise in new ways.
