Certain automakers seem fully committed to an all-electric future, as Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, Volkswagen and more have all promised to be EV-only brands in the near future. We can already see the steps toward this, as entire ranges of EV vehicles from these brands are being designed and produced, but one manufacturer not yet ready to go all-electric is McLaren.
As noted in a new press release, the supercar brand has entered into a long-term partnership with engine supplier Ricardo, in the effort to provide V8 engines for the “next generation of lightweight, high-performance hybrid supercars”. Granted, these will be hybrids, which means McLaren at least has its foot in the door of the EV industry.
“Our new high-performance, hybrid V8 powertrain will be an integral part of McLaren’s next-generation product line that delivers best-in-class performance and exciting driver engagement,” said Michael Leiters, Chief Executive Officer at McLaren Automotive.
As to what this next generation of supercars will look like, McLaren has not yet announced or elaborated.
