Marc Merrill takes on new role as product manager at Riot Games

Riot Gamesthe video game developer and distributor known for League of Legends and VALORANT, has announced that Riot’s co-founder and former co-CEO Marc Merrill will be in charge of oversee the ecosystems of all Riot Games products. in his new position at product manager.

As product manager, Marc will lead the vision for each game’s ecosystem and help solidify the future direction of LoL, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra and R&D at Riot. Reporting to CEO Dylan Jadeja, he will again be responsible for coordinating the overall product strategy and ensuring that the gameplay, esports and entertainment experiences across all games are aligned to deliver the best possible outcome for players.

In this new phase for Riot, our goal is to focus all of our efforts on our commitment to gamers and continue our transition from delivering games as a service to delivering games as a complete experience for gamers. Marc has an incredible background to lead this new and improved approach on behalf of gamers. He has been involved in the creation since its inception and has been working to make our mission a reality for years. He truly cares about our identity and what we mean to players. He also has a deep understanding of what our products convey. Most importantly, Marc shares our strategic vision in unifying our games, esports and entertainment into a player experience that goes beyond the sum of its parts. This new role will strengthen Riot’s future product strategy following an expansion of its products over the past five years, with the launch of shooter and strategy video games, expansion into mobile devices and Arcane, the Emmy award-winning animated series.

Prior to being named chief product officer, Marc was the president of Riot Games, where he worked closely with other leaders on the overall strategy of Riot’s portfolio. Since Riot’s founding in 2006, Marc has assumed several key leadership roles, including Riot’s first president and first executive producer of League of Legends, becoming co-CEO. He was instrumental in shaping Riot’s esports and entertainment campaigns, and today serves as co-president of Riot alongside co-founder Brandon Beck.

Marc, a Los Angeles native, was not only pivotal in the creation of Riot and League of Legends, he was also executive producer of Arcane, is involved with several charities (including Unite America, of which he is co-director). He has also worked with SoLa Impact to fund the creation and operations of the SoLa technology and entrepreneurship center. SoLa Technologywhich aims to inspire the next generation of video game developers, esports players, tech industry professionals, leaders and entrepreneurs in the Black and Latino community, all free of charge to residents of South Los Angeles.
