Marathon Digitalone of the world’s largest bitcoin mining companies, announced on Friday that it had mined 1245 BTC in the month of Maybringing its total production to 4141 tokens for the year 2023.
We produced a record 1,245 bitcoins in May, up 77% on last month and 366% on May 2022″, Marathon president Fred Thiel said in a statement, noting that the increase followed a rise in the company’s hash rate.
In May, Marathon’s operational hash rate rose 9% month-on-month to 15.2 EH/s. The miner aims to reach 23 EH/s by the end of the year.
The executive also indicated that the development of Ordinals, the NFT based on Bitcoin, which have been making headlines in recent weeks, had largely contributed to the increase in transaction fees in May, on some occasions exceeding the block reward normally capped at 6.25 bitcoins.
“Also in May, we announced that we would be partnering with Brink to raise up to $1 million to support developers Bitcoin Core. In less than four days, we have collectively raised nearly $800,000, including $500,000 from Marathon’s contribution. “added Fred Thiel.
