The League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), the top-ranked League of Legends league in EMEA, has unveiled a new new format for the 2025 season. The 2025 season will maintain a three-division format, but championship points and season finals have been eliminated.
Next year, each split (winter, spring and summer) will crown an LEC champion, as well as qualifying for its corresponding international tournament. In addition, each split will be played in a different format.
For the Winter Split The LEC’s Winter Split, which will begin on January 17, will have a similar format to its previous editions, with a best-of-one group stage, followed by best-of-three and best-of-five playoffs. The main change to this split will be the introduction of the “Fearless Draft”. In the “Fearless Draft”, selected champions who meet at any point in a best-of-three series are not eligible for selection in the remainder of the series. The Winter Split will also be a qualifier for the new third international League of Legends event..
The LEC Spring and Summer Splits have undergone the most changes, as the formats have changed from best-of-one to best-of-three. The Spring Split will include a seven-week, best-of-three, single-round regular season leading into a best-of-five playoff phase. The Summer Splitwill see the LEC teams divided into two groups, which will play each other to qualify for an expanded playoff system. The top two spring teams will qualify for the MSI.while the three in the summer will do so for the Worlds, which will take place in China.
Additional details unveiled by LEC include, in particular. LEC roadshowan activation in which the LEC is taken to other venues and countries. They have confirmed that the roadshow will take place “at the end” of the Summer Split, although exact locations have not yet been revealed.
In addition, the LEC will look to partner with teams to bring the competition to fans during the Spring Split. No further information on what these partnerships will look like has been disclosed.
