Facebook Messenger will have a new “Calls” tab

Coming to support users who make mostly voice calls and video calls through Facebook Messenger, Meta will add to the application the “Calls” section, dedicated to video or voice calls.

It is almost incomprehensible how Facebook Messenger has so far been left without a dedicated section for audio / video calls, with users having to open an instant messaging session each time, just to be able to access the calling function.

You’ll soon find the equivalent of the Android dialing menu in the Facebook Messenger interface, only your Messenger contacts will be listed here, with a direct dialing option. Missed calls will also appear here, freeing you from the same useless gesture of first accessing the instant messaging window to see what it’s all about.

Taking top priority, the new tab will appear at the bottom of the screen, right next to the “Chats”, “Stories” and “People” sections. In order not to complicate things unnecessarily, you will be able to access the instant messaging function and from the calls menu.

Through the changes, Meta only reduces the differences compared to the WhatsApp alternative, giving users easy access to all supported forms of communication.

According to statistics provided by Meta itself, the use of video and voice call support in the Facebook Messenger application has increased by 40%, from 2020 until now, fully justifying the changes made in the smartphone application.
