Coinbase Exchange Director announces departure

After two and a half years as head of the ” exchange and markets ” of Coinbase, Vishal Gupta leaves the crypto exchange for a new projectalways in the Web3.

Monday on Linkedin, Vishal Gupta said he was leaving his position as director of exchange and markets at Coinbase to focus on other things.

More than 200 cryptos listed since his arrival

“We have made the platform a stable part of the crypto ecosystem, Expanded our assets from 27 to 236 and our backlog from 73 to 534. We have increased Coinbase’s market share (US markets) from a low of ~35% in 2020 to a more recent high of ~65%,” the executive boasted in his message.

In charge of the Exchange unit of Coinbase since September 2020, Gupta also supported the San Francisco-based company in the acquisition of FairX and the launch of Coinbase Derivatives Exchange.

What’s the next step? I still think there’s a lot to build out there, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do – Build! Stay tuned for my next act,” he concluded, hinting that he would soon launch or join a new crypto project.

Prior to working for the California-based exchange, Gupta served as head of US options for investment bank Goldman Sachs and as head of USDC for stablecoin issuer Circle.

At the beginning of the year, Coinbase has again cut its workforce and separated about 950 employees.
