Ubisoft game designer Emile Morel has died at the age of 40. Morel, who worked at Ubisoft for quite some time, most recently served as creative director of Beyond Good and Evil 2. The news, noted by IGN, was originally posted on LinkedIn by several of his colleagues.
Morel has worked at Ubisoft since 2009 and has worked on several titles, including Rayman Legends as senior game designer and Beyond Good and Evil 2 as associate creative director before taking on his most recent role as creative director for the project.
The development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 seems to have been quite turbulent. Earlier this year, it was reported that Guillaume Carmona, the management director of the studio working on the game – Ubisoft Montpellier – had left the studio amid reports of burnout, stress and illness among employees.
However, Ubisoft recently stressed, in January of this year, that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development.
