Ubisoft has released a new video for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage, focusing on the story and gameplay of protagonist Basim. The trailer highlights three aspects: Basim as a new playable hero, how he became an Assassin, and how he can be deadly and resourceful. Watch the trailer below.
Basim was first introduced in the opening hours of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. He acts as a mentor figure for Eivor during the events of that game, but also has his own hidden motives and a mysterious past.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set in the year 861 AD, 12 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and takes place during Basim’s childhood in Anbar, near Baghdad. The design of Basim’s character also evokes memories of previous protagonists of the franchise, particularly the original protagonist Altair.
Progression in Assassin’s Creed Mirage does not revolve around grinding for XP. Instead, it is linear and based on the progression of the game’s story. Basim will unlock new skills as he rises ranks within the Brotherhood by completing story missions and side missions. Basim can upgrade his equipment, giving him more options when completing his missions.
The game also includes a new combat system, with new moves specific to Basim. Basim’s main weapons are his sword and dagger. Basim can also slow down time and perform a killstreak, taking out many potential enemies at once.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is scheduled for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on Oct. 12.
