Amazon Alexa accused of sexism –

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant was recently on the verge of cancellation when it was reported that it could not recognize matches at the Women’s World Cup. When asked what the result was between England and Australia in the semifinals, Alexa would say there was no match.

Academician Joanne Rodda told the BBC that this was an example of sexism and said it was “Pretty sad that after almost a decade of Alexa, it’s only today that the AI algorithm has been ‘fixed’ so that it now recognizes women’s World Cup soccer as ‘soccer.’ “

The problem has since been fixed by Amazon, and the company has said it hopes that more errors like this won’t happen. Since Alexa uses AI learning, hopefully it will be able to recognize women’s soccer more often.
