As soon as Kanye West returned to Twitter/X, he went on a rampage, spouting a host of nonsense, racism, anti-Semitism and more, prompting one user to create an AI-generated video in hopes of countering West’s sentiments.
The video, which has circulated online, features Scarlett Johansson, Adam Sandler, Sacha Baron-Cohen, Jake Gyllenhaal and many other Jewish celebrities wearing a t-shirt with a middle finger, a Star of David and Kanye’s name underneath.
In a statement to People, Johansson denounced the video, saying it was a “misuse of AI.”
“It has been brought to my attention by family members and friends that an AI-generated video with my image, in response to an anti-Semitic view, is circulating online and gaining popularity. I am a Jewish woman who has no tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech of any kind. But I also firmly believe that the potential for hate speech multiplied by AI is a far greater threat than any person who takes responsibility for it. We must expose the abuse of AI, regardless of the messaging, or we risk losing our grip on reality.”
Johansson continued that she has been specifically targeted by AI videos and photos in the past, but that technology can affect anyone. “There is a 1,000-foot wave coming regarding AI that several progressive countries, including the United States, have responded to responsibly. It is frightening that the U.S. government is paralyzed when it comes to passing legislation that protects all of its citizens from the looming dangers of AI,” she added.
