Wireless 7.1 sound system – what exactly does that mean?

I’m a big fan of sound systems on TV. Primarily for two reasons: On the one hand, every sound system, no matter how cheap or small, sounds great. better than pure TV soundwhich is mostly just flat and lame.

On the other hand Sound conveys much more emotion than simply “looking at pictures”. When the bass massages your back, when you hear the hooves of the Rohirrim trampling all around you and the soundtrack literally hugs you, then that’s exactly where you are in the middle of it instead of just there.

5.1, 7.1, 2.1 – what does that mean? Basically you have five, seven or two surround speakers (including center box) as well as a subwoofer (woofer).
