It happens at the pump, with gasoline and diesel: until Easter, we do not escape a potential disaster

The price of gasoline and diesel in Romania continues to be a significant source of stress for drivers in Mioritic lands. At the current rate of price increases, we do not lose 9 lei until the Easter holidays.

If you are a fan of premium diesel, yesterday, it started to be incredibly close to 9 lei, but some OMV gas stations in Bucharest have started to offer it even at this psychological value. At the moment, at Mol and OMV, you buy it for 8.97, respectively 8.98 lei. Depending on the region of the country you are in, you may still notice small fluctuations.

Gasoline and diesel in Romania tend to become a luxury

The price of fuels has risen again to 9 lei per liter, at a time when Romanians are preparing to travel in the country and abroad. Increased demand has inevitably fueled an increase in prices, although it is not clear or predictable whether it will return to the previous threshold. It is also unlikely that we will ever get closer to the time when diesel in Romania was cheaper than petrol.

Basically, at this hour, I was back to the point of a month ago, when people were queuing at the pump. If you missed the moment, due to a sudden increase in price, many Romanians panicked and “ran” to the gas stations in the hope of catching the “low price”.

However, returning to the current situation, standard diesel is currently hovering above the threshold of 8.5 lei, up to 8.58 lei. Standard gasoline is significantly cheaper, but it is still fast approaching the psychological threshold of 8 lei.

If you are curious about the price variation in your area, there are several platforms that offer this comparison service, but lately I have used peco-online. Beyond the main features, it is important to note that gasoline in Romania continues to be among the cheapest in Europe, well below the European average. Cheaper than in our country you can find it in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Malta, Poland, Cyprus and Hungary (where the price is capped by the state).
