Summer Game Fest kicks off later this week, with some great shows likely to make headlines in the coming days and weeks. But with many shows on the roll this year, if you’re not sure which ones you want to see, we’ve got a handy little list of when each show will air and what kind of atmosphere to expect.
Friday, June 6 at 16:00 BST/17:00 CEST – Access-Ability Showcase
This showcase highlights games created by disabled developers, or games that seek to help people with disabilities through accessibility options. It lasts just under an hour and features games from a variety of genres. Although, given what comes next, you’d be forgiven if you don’t expect the biggest releases at this show.
Friday, June 6 at 22:00 BST/23:00 CEST – Summer Game Fest Showcase
This will probably be the biggest showcase of the entire weekend. Geoff Keighley will take the stage to reel off some great ads, with a few games here and there. All kidding aside, this 2-hour presentation will probably have lots of things to talk about, as is usually the case with the SGF Showcase.
Saturday, June 7 at 00:00 BST/01:00 CEST – Day of the Developers
After the SGF Showcase, we have more of an indie-focused showcase. With unique and interesting games, Day of the Devs often causes us to stay up just that little bit later for an hour after the SGF Showcase.
Saturday, June 7 at 01:00 BST/02:00 CEST – Devolver Direct
Usually a Devolver Direct showcases many different indie games with an overarching absurd theme. This year there is a focus on one game, Ball X Pit. A rather unique focus, and perhaps one to keep an eye on if you’re a regular fan of Devolver.
Saturday, June 7 at 02:00 BST/03:00 CEST – IOI Showcase
Another big one here, namely the IOI Showcase. We’ll get the latest on MindsEye, Hitman: World of Assassination and the recently revealed 007 First Light.
Saturday, June 7 at 17:00 BST/18:00 CEST – Wholesome Direct
This is a show that very much does what it says. If you like cozy, cute and cuddly, you’ll want to see all of the above in the wholesome games of this year’s Wholesome Direct.
Saturday, June 7 at 18:00 BST/19:00 CEST – Women-led Games Showcase
Another show pretty much from the title. The Women-Led Games Showcase covers all kinds of genres, with development teams led by women and consisting mostly of women.
Saturday, June 7 at 19:00 BST/20:00 CEST – Latin American Games Showcase
The Latin American Games Showcase hopes to increase the visibility of games being made in the LATAM region and by Latin Americans worldwide. More than 50 games will be featured in this show, including world premieres.
Saturday, June 7 at 20:00 BST/21:00 CEST – Southeast Asian Games Showcase
Another showcase, another region of the world. This is a debut show this year, highlighting games from – you guessed it – Southeast Asia and offering them to a global audience. There will be more than 45 games on display, offering something for everyone.
Saturday, June 7 at 21:00 BST/22:00 CEST – Green Games Showcase
Green Games Showcase promises to be more than a show. It’s a rallying cry, coming from PlanetPlay as a way to show that games can be a powerful way to demonstrate how we should take care of our environment.
Saturday, June 7 at 21:00 BST/22:00 CEST – Future Games Show
This year’s Future Games Show, hosted by Matt Mercer and Laura Bailey, lasts about 90 minutes, with over 45 games from all genres. World premieres, demo drops and deep dives are all on the menu.
Sunday, June 8 at 00:00 BST/01:00 CEST – Frosty Games Fest
Although you may not have guessed it from the name, the Frosty Games Fest also deals with a specific part of the world. This show gives a platform to developers based in or from Australia and Aotearoa, New Zealand. It also strongly opposes AI and NFTs in games.
Sunday, June 8 at 18:00 BST/19:00 CEST – Xbox Games Showcase
The second big daddy of the weekend. We expect many surprises at this year’s Xbox showcase, especially given that it has remained largely secretive about what it brings. Gears of war? Fable? Perfectly dark? They may all appear, or not, as the case may be. We do know that we will get an extended look at The Outer Worlds 2 immediately afterwards.
Sunday, June 8 at 20:00 BST/21:00 CEST – PC Gaming Show
This show focuses on the games you play with a mouse and keyboard and features more than 50 games, with new titles, updates to existing games and more, all on the cards.
Monday, June 9 at 03:00 BST/04:00 CEST – Death Stranding 2 Game Premiere
The last night of the weekend so far, this is primarily for those who want to see a substantial look at Death Stranding 2: On the Beach prior to the game’s launch later this month.
Monday, June 9 at 17:00 BST/18:00 CEST – Black Voices in Gaming Showcase
While this year’s Black Voices in Gaming showcase may not have revealed much yet, we imagine it will focus on games by black creators. New game trailers, discussions, updates and more are likely on the schedule.
