Avowed arrives with new expanded gameplay – That’s Gaming

We already have a lot of Avowed seen, and as we get closer to its February release, Microsoft and Obsidian Entertainment continue to show off more of the action-RPG. During the third day of Microsoft’s Gamescom livestream, we got another look at the game, showing a full quest in one of the early dungeons.

Various core systems and mechanics of Avowed are shown in the gameplay demonstration, from progression to character creation. Players can invest in five different background controls that they can occasionally use in conversations, depending on the situation and whether they have invested enough in the background.

As for progression, when leveling up you can invest in different skills spread across five different skill trees, each with their own unique specializations: Ranger, Fighter, Wizard, Godlike and Companion.

During conversations, players can open a conversation log at any time with the press of a button, which will also display an on-screen lore guide somewhat similar to Final Fantasy 16’s Active Time Lore system.

Exploration will include some parkour elements, with an emphasis on vertical level design, while there will also be some focus on puzzle solving. The new gameplay also showcases a fair bit of combat, with different enemy types (including a skeleton mini-boss and a boss fight to end the show), skills, weapons, loot and, of course, the game’s emphasis on choice and consequence mechanics.
