Lego scales up its paper bag packaging by 2024 -.

Lego has been working on making its products more sustainable for some time, including finding new solutions for the actual bricks and creating better and more sustainable packaging solutions. Speaking of the latter, Lego has now announced that it will scale up its paper bag packaging efforts by 2024.

We are told that after a basic rollout in some European and Asian markets, we will see paper bag packaging coming to the European Union, the United States and Canada in 2024 next year. The paper used in these bags would come from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests and use FSC-controlled wood. The transition to support these more environmentally friendly packaging solutions is currently underway, with plans to further reduce the weight of plastic packaging (which is now only 7%) by 2025.

To create the paper packaging, we are told that more than 70 different paper types and sizes have been tested, and all have been tested for their ability to withstand temperature, weather and humidity changes so that they can be used in Lego factories around the world. This paper solution will also be used to replace plastic packaging used in Pick & Build walls in stores, and to shift Lego minifigures from single-use plastic to cardboard boxes.
