Woman finds parasitic worm in her brain -.

A 64-year-old English woman living in New South Wales, Australia (because, of course, this could only happen in Australia) experienced abdominal pain and diarrhea in January 2021.

In 2022, her symptoms evolved into forgetfulness and depression. After more than a year, an MRI scan finally revealed that her brain had a worm in it. The parasitic roundworm, known as motile helminth, was surgically removed. It measured 8 cm long and 1 mm in diameter.

It is believed that the worm – usually found in the stomachs of snakes – was ingested by the woman at some point, where it found its way to her brain because her immune system was compromised by medication she was taking.
