While the crypto project has already attracted the attention of the UK’s data regulator, the CNIL also considers that Worldcoin may not respect the regulations in force.

La French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) declared on Friday that the legality of the collection of biometric data of the project Worldcoin seemed ” questionable “reported Reuters.

Launched on Monday, Worldcoin lets you create digital identifiers by exploiting the iris recognition. To obtain a World ID, users have to install an application and then visit one of the “orbs” made available by the startup around the world to perform an eyeball scan.

The legality of this collection seems questionable, as do the conditions under which the biometric data is stored,” the French personal data regulator told the news agency, adding that it was investigating the matter with its German counterpart.

The British body Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) also indicated earlier this week that it would be investigating Worldcoin.
