Xperia 1 V appears in the first “unofficial” images. Changes will probably be on the inside

Despite the fact that Sony Xperia phones have long since fallen off the sales charts, Sony doesn’t seem to be giving up on the range. However, it’s starting to become apparent that for the Japanese manufacturer, launching a new flagship every year isn’t very expensive, as the design of these models hasn’t changed since the Xperia 1 debuted a few years ago. The design of the new Xperia 1 V has leaked on the internet and if we didn’t already know, we could say it’s last year’s Xperia 1 IV.

Xperia 1 V brings few noticeable design changes

As we’ve become accustomed to for a few years now, Sony will try to integrate pretty much all new technologies into this phone, with a particular focus on cameras. For one reason or another, the company doesn’t want to change the size of the phone, which could provide better performance. The Xperia 1 V remains a very thin phone and probably just as inefficient when it comes to processor cooling.

Of course, the new processor expected in this model will be the most powerful one currently available, i.e. the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The display could remain the same 120 Hz OLED model with 4K resolution in 21:9 format, while the RAM could increase from 12 to 16 GB. In comparison, the Samsung S23 and S23+ come with just 8 GB of RAM.

The biggest upgrade might be in the cameras, though. The main camera could go up from 12 to 48 megapixels, just like the iPhone 14 Pro, probably using the same sensor produced by Sony. The other two cameras are expected to stay at 12 megapixels, with a third 12 megapixel camera on the front.

As in previous years, the Xperia 1 V will ship with a fingerprint sensor in the Power button, a photo button on the right side and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It thus remains one of the last flagships compatible with such headphones without an adapter. The SIM card slot is at the bottom, alongside the USB-C port.

The official announcement could come towards the end of February, probably at Mobile World Congress 2023. Launch is expected through the summer.
