Galaxy S23 confirmed with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 – promises greater resistance to impact with concrete

The Galaxy S23 will be the third generation of Galaxy phones protected with the famous Gorilla Glass, with Victus 2 following the Victus+ (Galaxy S22) and Victus (Galaxy S21, Note 20 Ultra) series.

Equipped for the first time with Victus 2 protection, the Galaxy S23 should be able to withstand impact with hard (e.g. cement) or highly abrasive (asphalt) surfaces much better. While it doesn’t cover every possible scenario, manufacturer Corning guarantees effective protection for drops from pocket level (1 meter) on cement, or from ear level (2 meters) for contact with asphalt. At the same time, the supplier gives assurances that improved drop protection does not come at the cost of weaker scratch resistance, as this was a recognised trade-off in previous Gorilla Glass versions.

Although, being glass (an almost endlessly recyclable material) we can hardly talk about environmental impact, Corning claims that the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 range is made with 22% recycled glass, thus receiving the Environmental Claim Validation mark.

Although, the press release doesn’t specifically mention the Galaxy S23, the timing with Samsung’s prepared launch next week and history of previous collaborations doesn’t leave much room for interpretation. Samsung is usually the first company to get access to Corning’s latest glass variants.
