Instagram adds Quiet Mode, the feature that visibly blocks Direct Message requests

Most useful to Instagram stars with very high follower counts, the Quiet Mode feature has been widely requested by the platform’s own users, alleviating one of the consequences of Instagram star status.

No matter how large the follower count, all Instagram users can be contacted by their followers using direct messages. Although, it seems like a basic feature of any social network, the Direct Message option can quickly end up consuming all of the time of users who have reached star status. Until now, the solution could only come through costly solutions, such as appointing/hiring “helpers” to respond to message requests, to renting chat-bot services, AI-based or not.

Already being activated platform-wide, the Quiet Mode option comes to solve the “problem” of too insistent (or numerous) requests for direct messages with a simple label attached to the user’s profit, signaling to fans that she is not available to be contacted directly. Instead, DMs will be “solved” with pre-defined auto-reply replies. But most importantly, post notifications will be completely turned off for the owner of that Instagram account.

Currently, the new functionality is only available to users in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with plans to expand to other regions in the near future.
