Forever Royal: Remembering Yordano Ventura

At first we were in shock. Then when we mourned. Together. That’s what this city does, and that’s what the Chiefs and Royals do for this city – it brings us together. It’s what makes Kansas City so special. It’s not some transient population who only cares about their teams if they’re winning. The teams actually matter to this city. And, we care. As Danny Duffy, who recently signed a 5-year, $65...

We here at Royals Blue...

R.I.P. ACE

Not again……Not this.  It seems like last week when I wrote the piece about one of my favorite young pitchers Jose Fernandez being killed in an accident.  And yet, for some cruel reason, here I am again.  Looking at a screen.  Trying to find words that explain what happened to one of my favorite hometown guys, Yordano Ventura.  Ace.  YO.  The Kid.  is gone.  Killed in a...

A Kansas City Royals Christmas Wishlist

Dear Santa,   First off, thank you for finally getting me the Christmas present I have asked for pretty much every year of my life: a Kansas City Royals World Series Championship. Whereas the 2016 season was one fraught with some difficulties, 2014 and 2015 were magical times that many fans like myself will never forget. You da man, Claus.   For Christmas this year, I would like … A “Finally Puts It All...

Royals face long odds to win it all in 2017

After a disappointing 2016 campaign that saw the Royals finish a mediocre 81-81, fans in Kansas City have tempered hopes that 2017 might be the season that gets this team back on track.  Much of the thinking is the Royals were simply out of gas after two straight seasons of reaching and eventually winning the World Series. With the goal having been achieved, it would be natural to find it hard to carry on the same motivation...

Royals Roundtable: Has the Window to Win Closed?

We’ve heard over the last year or two that the Royals “window to win” is open through 2017, then it will suddenly close as most of the current core leaves and Dayton Moore tears it down, to build it back up, again. Awe, the life of small market baseball. But, after an 81-81 2016 – a year in which the Royals were unable to cash in on their highest payroll in franchise history, riddled with injury after...

Wade Davis and the Royal Reality

On Wednesday, Royals fans had to say good-bye to their Cyborg, Wade Davis.  Davis was traded to the Cubs for outfielder Jorge Soler.  Many Royals fans are reasonably upset, Davis was a fan favorite and had one of the best stretches any reliever has ever had in baseball history.  This isn’t even mentioning the fact that he struck out Wilmer Flores to capture the Royals’ first World Series title in thirty...

Royals Fill a Need But Weaken Their Bullpen

What was first being reported yesterday as a possibility, is now a reality.  The Kansas City Royals have traded the Cyborg, Wade Davis, to the Chicago Cubs for Right Fielder Jorge Soler.    This is an interesting trade from both sides. Royals Fans were not thrilled at losing one of the most dominant relief pitchers of the last 4 years, and Cubs fans were not keen on giving up on a guy with 30+ homerun potential so...
