Heading into the 2021 season, many players will be wearing different jersey numbers, and this includes Danny Duffy. Duffy announced on the first day of camp that he has changed his jersey number to the number 30 to remember former Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura. According to KSNT News, Duffy has purchased various Ventura memorabilia off of eBay. This isn’t the only thing Duffy has done since Ventura’s death. The 32-year-old is known to write the number 30 on the pitcher’s mound before every outing to remember Ventura. It’s important to remember that Duffy isn’t the only player in baseball to wear the number 30 to remember Ventura. San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer also wears the number 30 to remember the young pitcher. Both Duffy and Hosmer were teammates of Ventura in Kansas City. I believe this is a classy move by Duffy to change his jersey number to remember Yordano Ventura. However, this isn’t the first time Duffy has changed his jersey number. At the beginning of his Royals career, Duffy wore the number 23 before switching to the number 41. I believe heading into the 2021 season, Duffy is looking to reach the playoffs like every player is, but he’s also playing in honor of Yordano Ventura.
