Baseball Is Back!!!

This is the day most baseball fans have been dreaming of since the end of game 7 of the world series. Today pitchers and catchers report to Suprise Arizona for spring training! While the official workouts for the pitchers and catchers don’t start tomorrow this day is still very exciting. On February 16 all position players will be reporting and full team workouts start the next day. The Royals have their first ST game February 21, vs the Rangers and the Royals conclude spring training March 24, vs the Brewers.

While the Royals didn’t sign any big-name free agents this offseason there were still big changes. Most notably new ownership and a new manager. It has been a while since the Royals went into spring training not managed by Ned Yost. It has been even longer since the Royals went into spring training not owned by David Glass. It will be interesting to see if Matheny’s changes start to show in spring training.

There are some people in the baseball community that basically just ignore spring training. For a team like the Royals who aren’t going to be great spring training is really fun to watch. You get to see other players that may not make the roster now but will be apart of the next wave. I mean hey, last year the Royals won the Cactus league title last year so while the wins mean nothing maybe we’ll get to see the Royals win some games!

This spring training will definitely be interesting with the next wave coming to their first spring training and even fighting for spots on the team. I will be going into detail and many more things to watch in spring training later this week!

On a non-baseball related note spring training also means spring will be here soon! I love the recent memories of me listening to spring training games while having the windows open. By the end of ST, the miserable Missouri winter will be gone. This time of the year fills me with my baseball passion even though the Royals may not be great. I hope y’all are excited as I am. Royals Blue will be covering everything spring training in 2020!
