Royals to Try Morales in Right Field

The Royals DH Kendrys Morales will get to try his hand playing outfield tonight when the Royals face the Cardinals in St. Louis for an inter-league game sans his usual DH role in the batting order. In an attempt to keep Morales' hot bat rolling in the Royals lineup, Ned has gotten creative. Lets just hope it is not at the expense of a usually superb outfield defense.

There was some talk last year about Morales possibly being able to play in the outfield after Rusty Kuntz observed him playing there while shagging balls and remarking that he looked surprisingly capable.

For what it is worth, this isn't a COMPLETELY alien position for Morales, as he does have 18 games there in his 10 seasons of Major League Baseball, compiling a total of 76 innings and has played them without recording a single error. Morales also was a center fielder during his time in Cuba, thought that was most likely a few pounds and several years ago.

The Royals find themselves short one less outfielder as it were today when it was announced center fielder Lorenzo Cain was added to the 15-day disabled list with a pulled hamstring obtained while running out a ball to first base in the finale of the Cardinals series in Kansas City. Brett Eibner was recalled from AAA Omaha to fill his void in the mean time.

Morales has primarily played first base (381 games) and DH (510 games) in his career.
