Alex Gordon is officially staying home! The Royals and Gordon announced today that they have reached a deal worth $72 Million dollars over the next four years. In all this will is now officially the largest contract in Royals Franchise History.
A career .269 hitter, Gordon has seen his numbers jump over the past four years to the tune of .281/.359/.450. Pair that up with 4 Gold Gloves (one platinum) and three All-Star appearances. The former number 2 overall pick saw his career resurrected after changing from a 3rd baseman into the best Left Fielder in the game.
Though this may be the largest contract in Royals History, it seems to be an incredibly fair price from both ends. Intital reports saw Gordon in the 4 year/$90-100 Mil mark. Though recently the market simmered down, and most teams seemed interested in only giving him 3 years. With this contract likely being his last, it is fair to say this deal has made Alex Gordon a Royal for Life!
